Let’s hear how the people on the street are being hurt by gas prices.

In January, Sen. Reid said “We’ve allowed Exxon’s bottom line to take priority over families struggling at the gas pump and the harmful effects of global warming.” Families struggling at the gas pump…now there’s a mental picture…

But it raises the question, how have gas prices really affected you? Has it altered your lifestyle, or the lifestyle of someone you know? Is it mainly psychlogical, seeing that number going up every day on the way to work, wondering how high it will go?

Put the question another way: it’s likely that if prices hit $3 per gallon again this summer in the US, people all over the country will scale back their travel plans; so how much of this travel-curtailing will be a result of people’s subconscious response to gas price fluctuations, as opposed to sitting down to figure out the cost? Do you believe there is a disconnect between what you feel about gas prices and what it is actually costing you?

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I'm doing just fine, no beans for dinner tonight

Zing!

But on a more serious note, my parents buy my gas so I do not need to worry.

if they still do that for you then it would seem that higher gas prices have not materially affected them, either :D
